Education

Useful Information

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university or college, with acceptable specialization in geography, engineering or some other subject relevant to the position.

Asset Qualification
• Graduate degree with additional specialization in hydrology and river-ice analysis.

Experience

Experience in analyzing and interpreting hydrometric records of river ice, discharge and climate data for cold-regions rivers.
Experience in conducting Mann-Kendall trend analysis and return-period analyses of hydro-climatic data.
Experience in classifying hydroclimatic regimes.

Asset Qualifications:
. Experience in conducting hydrometric programs.
. Experience in using advanced statistical computer programs.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

Conditions of Employment:
• Possession of valid driver’s licence or personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid driver’s licence
• Employment medical prior to appointment and at specified intervals
• Reliability/Security: Reliability Status

Operational Requirements:
• Required to work at computer workstations for extended periods of time.
• Required to work in the field under less than ideal conditions (e.g. remote locations, inclement weather).
• Required to work overtime on weekdays and weekends.
• Willingness to travel.

Applicants who meet the above criteria will also be assessed against the Statement of Merit Criteria for this position.

Challenge

Under the general direction of a research scientist, participates in the analysis of hydroclimatic data sets and in the conduct of field hydrologic studies. Develops, adapts and applies current analytical methods and new technologies for analyses of river-ice and discharge regimes. Analyzes, reviews and interprets hydro-climatic data sets using statistical and some GIS-based techniques. Writes reports on scientific data and prepares it for presentation. Organizes and conducts field studies. Maintains archive data bases of hydro-climatic data.
