About Us

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Business Service Network, formally announced October 29, 1999, is a joint initiative of the federal and provincial governments which exemplifies the spirit of cooperation and teamwork. The managing partners for the initiative are the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) on behalf of the Government of Canada.

Through an innovative joint management and delivery approach, both agencies provide the premier gateway to the business information in the province.

The initiative also established Business Service Network sites in each of the 20 economic zones in the province bringing together public and private partners. The partnership arrangement makes each of the on-site stakeholders at the various network sites an equal partner in this initiative. They each maintain responsibility for the delivery of their respective programs and services but within a cluster of network partners that provides coordinated and more complete business service for the client, a "first-stop" for people visiting Network sites. Network site partners include federal and provincial government departments, private industry and community economic development agencies. Visit our Partners  page to learn more about who they are and what they do.

The primary objectives of the Business Service Network are to:

  • promote economic development by making business information, programs and services more easily accessible and readily available to people wherever they live in Newfoundland and Labrador

  • bring together, where possible, various government and community-based agencies to provide public access to business services from a single location

Services available through the Business Service Network:

  • First Stop Service: We are a first stop service for business information and planning.
  • Research: We help clients find the business information they need.
  • Workstations: We offer up-to-date computer workstations for business research with access to the Internet.
  • Library: We offer a full service lending library (specializing in business and economic information).
  • E-Services: Use our convenient E-Services.

We are a full-service business information resource accessible province-wide and free-of-charge and our staff are committed to providing a quality service to you, our clients.

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Business Service Centre/Network are also part of a national network of Canada Business  service centres with a location in a major centre, usually the provincial capital, in each province and territory. This country-wide initiative is coordinated by the National Secretariat of CBSC's which reports to an Assistant Deputy Minister's committee of managing partners from Industry Canada, Western Diversification, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Canadian Economic Development
