Library and Archives Canada is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Hydrographic Service by presenting the exhibition Charting the Waters of New France. On display will be several reproductions of hydrographic charts from the time of New France.

Based on the collections of Library and Archives Canada, Bon appétit! offers an introduction to the fascinating subject of Canadian culinary history.

Beginning with an introduction to Native foods and cooking techniques, the exhibition continues through the cooking methods and recipes of the pioneers, and the coming of science to the kitchen at the turn of the 20th century, and includes the many multicultural and regional influences that give our culinary history its distinctive flavour.

Governor General's Literary Award Winners Reading 13th Anniversary

In cooperation with the University of Ottawa's School of Political Studies, Library and Archives Canada presents this lecture by Louise Fréchette, listed as one of the world's 100 most powerful women by Forbes magazine. She is Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and a veteran Canadian diplomat.
The lecture will be in both English and French; simultaneous translation will be provided.

To Fight or Not to Fight? Achilles' Tragic Dilemma

You may have seen Brad Pitt play Achilles in the recent Hollywood movie Troy. You've read the Iliad by Homer. You may have taken a class or two in the Classics Department at university. But there is still so much to learn about Achilles. In this illustrated lecture, playwright and novelist Peter Chriss will explore who Achilles really was and why his choice was tragic.

In this illustrated lecture, Dr. Kilpatrick, Professor Emeritus, Queen's University, will try to establish three well-known poems as possible sources for Leonardo da Vinci's "invention" in Mona Lisa: a Latin ode of Horace, and two Italian sonnets by Petrarch (14th century) that were inspired by Horace's ode.
