The Rare Book Collection


Electronic research guides

To facilitate research and consultation, electronic research guides are available on unique collections housed with the Rare Book Collection and also on topics of special interest relating to the Rare Book Collection. These research guides list primary sources in the Library's Rare Book Collection and, in some cases, list original materials located in other institutions for which the National Library holds only a microfilm copy. Exhibition of Items in the Rare Book Collection

Early Images of Canada: Illustrations from Rare Books. Browse 550 images taken from books published before the year 1800, including exploration or missionary narratives.

Impressions: 250 Years of Printing in the Lives of Canadians opened in the Main Exhibition Hall at the National Library of Canada on April 24, 1999 and will run until January 2000. This exhibition of over 250 items shows the vital role printing has played in the lives of Canadians since 1751.
