PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE TRAFFIC DETOUR OPENS

Effective today, motorists are advised that the detour route for PTH 1 at Portage la Prairie will open to traffic for motorists wishing to bypass the city.  The detour utilizes Saskatchewan Avenue and Angle Road.  Angle Road was reconstructed with a gravel surface and sufficient width to accommodate two-way traffic.

“We are pleased to have worked with the City of Portage on this important project to alleviate traffic congestion while the overpass is being replaced,” said Infrastructure and Transportation Minister Ron Lemieux. “We share the community’s concerns and feel that rerouting on Angle Road will significantly ease the traffic disruptions within the city.”

This section of the detour is approximately 1.7 kilometres in length and will be posted at 70 kilometres per hour.

The work was required as a result of the closure of the Portage la Prairie bypass and the increased traffic flowing through the city. The Portage bypass will be closed for approximately one year. Drivers are reminded to use caution when approaching or travelling through the detour route.
