Manitoba Youth Job Centres (MYJCs)

Services to Students and Youth | Job Orders and Referral Process |Locations

The MYJCs are operated by the Provincial Government in cooperation with either a community-based Sponsoring Committee or a Human Resources Development Canada office. There 44 centres in rural and northern Manitoba and four centres in Winnipeg which are open for business from May to August each year.

Many students/youth have difficulty finding summer jobs. They may lack job search skills, or they may lack the skills and experience required by many employers. On the other hand, many employers find it difficult to fill part-time or seasonal positions. They may not have a clear understanding of the abilities of students and youth and often overlook them as potential employees.

The bottom line in all of this is that the MYJCs play an important role for both students/youth and employers. Program staff become the spokesperson for students and youth by encouraging and assisting employers to hire them.

Services to Students and Youth

There are many services offered to students and youth over the course of the summer. Some services offered are:

Student/Youth Registrations:
Students/Youth can go to any MYJC/SCCY office location and register for regular or casual employment over the course of the summer.
Group Job Search and Job Readiness Workshops:
Job search workshops are available to provide students and youth with information on how to effectively look for employment. These workshops also emphasize the development of personal skills to promote employability.
Individual Job Search Workshops:
Assistance is available for individuals completing the registration form, preparing for an interview and learning how and where to look for employment on their own.
Odd Job Squad:
To help young people between the age of 12 and 16 gain valuable work experience and earn an income by promoting short term job creation projects during the summer.
Hire-A-Student Week:
The purpose of this week is to encourage employers to hire young people.

Manitoba Youth Job Centres:

registers students/youth for all types of employment.
receives job orders from employers.
refers students/youth to employers requesting to fill summer positions.

Service Canada Centres for Youth:

registers students for casual employment only.
receives job orders from employers.
has job banks for students/youth to access job orders from employers.
refers students/youth to employers requesting to fill casual positions
