The 2007 All-Star edition of CBC Radio's Canada Reads has been announced, and among the books nominated is Gabrielle Roy's Children of My Heart. For more information visit the Canada Reads website.


Fourteen of McClelland & Stewart's books were among the Globe and Mail's 100 favourites from 2006. The list includes:

Bay of Spirits by Farley Mowat in the Biography/Memoir section, Being Caribou by Karsten Heuer and Bringing Back the Dodo by Wayne Grady in the Science and Nature section.

Right Side Up by Paul Wells was a favourite political book and The Architecture of Happiness by Alain de Botton was selected for the Architecture and Urban Affairs list.

Literary sections of the list include This Is My Country, What’s Yours? by Noah Richler in the Belles Lettres section, Momentary Dark by Margaret Avison, Strike/Slip by Don McKay and Inventory by Dionne Brand for Poetry and, the Canadian Fiction list includes Revival: An Anthology of Black Canadian Writing edited by Donna Bailey Nurse, Certainty by Madeline Thien, Piece of My Heart by Peter Robinson, The View from Castle Rock by Alice Munro, Charles the Bold by Yves Beauchemin translated by Wayne Grady.

Two literary giants come together for one night only! On December 7th, at 7:00pm, Margaret Atwood will appear at World's Biggest Bookstore, 20 Edward Street, Toronto, to host a historical event with Alice Munro.

Alice Munro will join the proceedings via the LongPen™ from a location near her home in southern Ontario. This ground-breaking event will include a short reading by Munro, a Q&A session with questions from Atwood, audience members, and media, followed by a dual signing of their latest collections of short stories: Atwood will sign copies of Moral Disorder in person, and Munro will sign a limited number of copies of The View from Castle Rock via the LongPen™.


The 2007 long list of titles nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award was just announced, and among the 138 novels on the list are The Time In Between by David Bergen and He Drown She in the Sea by Shani Mootoo. The short list will be announced on April 4, 2007 and the winner on June 14, 2007. Click here for more information.


McClelland & Stewart is pleased to announce a collector's edition of The Scream, a story by Rohinton Mistry, with illustrations by Tony Urquhart. M&S has undertaken to produce for World Literary of Canada a limited quantity of signed and numbered copies of The Scream. The 2006 Governor General's Award finalists were announced on October 16, and our congratulations go to Trevor Cole in the English-language Fiction category for his novel The Fearsome Particles, and in the Poetry category, Dionne Brand’s Inventory.
