The
Department provides planning and development advisory services to
local government and its agencies outside the City of Winnipeg. Such
services help to plan, adopt and implement local development
policies, by-laws, strategies and decision-making processes to
ensure the sustainable development and use of land and resources.
The Department also assists provincial departments and crown
agencies review development proposals in relation to public
infrastructure and provincial interests. The
Provincial Land Use Policies, adopted under The Planning Act
reflect the Provincial interests in land, resources and
infrastructure. The PLUPs serve as a guide to the Provincial and
local planning authorities in reviewing and amending land use
development plans.

Manitoba Planning Excellence Awards:
The Manitoba Planning Excellence Awards acknowledge individuals, organizations, companies and Manitoba planning authorities (municipalities or planning districts) for their efforts to enhance communities through innovative and high quality land use planning initiatives.
The Awards, now occurring every two years, promote outstanding planning practice that supports the implementation of sustainable development principles within land use related planning activities in Manitoba. Up to three Awards are given and the jury reserves the right to recommend "Honourary Mention" Awards. Nominations must meet all of the Award conditions outlined in the Application Form.
To nominate a project for recognition in the next Planning Excellence Awards, anyone may submit an entry on behalf of themselves, or another individual, organization, company or planning authority. To do so, please complete the application form and send the package to the Community and Land Use Planning Division.

The deadline for submission is December 29, 2006. The 2007 Awards will be presented during the 2007 Manitoba Planning Conference, to be hosted by the MSTW Planning District on March 21-23, 2007.
