Premier Gary Doer announced the appointment of Dave Chomiak as Attorney General and Minister of Justice on September 21, 2006.
David Chomiak was born in Winnipeg's North End and resides in the West Kildonan area. He and his wife, Rita, are the parents of two sons.
Prior to Dave's successful election in September 1990 as the MLA for Kildonan, he was a lawyer in private practice. Dave was re-elected in the 1995 general election.
Dave was a member of the board of the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Choir, the Board of Directors of Ed Schreyer's Canadian Shield Foundation and was an active Big Brother with the Big Brother's Association of Manitoba.
Dave was Executive Assistant to Ed Schreyer as Premier of Manitoba and Special Assistant to Ed Schreyer as Leader of the Opposition.
He is a former board member of Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre and a former member of Rusalka Dance Ensemble.
He was the New Democratic Party Critic for Health and has also served as the Critic for Education and Justice.
