Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation

Premier Gary Doer announced the appointment of Ron Lemieux to Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation on September 21, 2006.

Ron Lemieux Ron Lemieux was an educator for over 14 years prior to his 1999 election to the Legislature as the MLA for La Verendrye.

Ron earned his BA and BEd from the University of Winnipeg. He also completed Post Baccalaureate Certification in Education from the University of Manitoba.

Before becoming an educator Ron worked in sales and also as a recreation director. The Pittsburgh Penguins drafted him and for a time he was a professional hockey player. He was also employed as a provincial civil servant and brings with him an intimate knowledge of how government works.

Ron is active in the community. He coached the girls’ high school hockey team in Lorette and the AA Midget girls team in St. Adolphe. He has coached many other minor hockey and high school teams. He has also served as the volunteer Vice-President of the Lorette Sports Centre and has held a number of positions in his teacher’s association.

Ron and his wife Val have lived near Lorette for 27 years. They have two children attending university in Manitoba and one who attends the Lorette Collegiate.

On November 4, 2003, Premier Gary Doer appointed him Minister of Transportation and Government Services. Previously he was the Minister of Education and Youth, Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism, and the Minister responsible for Sport as well as the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. He now serves as Minister of Infrastructure.
