The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs

Greg Thompson was first elected to the House of Commons in 1988. He was re-elected in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006. Most recently, he served as Critic for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Prior to this, he served as Critic for Public Accounts, for Health, for Regional Development, for the Treasury Board and for Human Resources Development.

The Honourable Betty Hinton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs

Betty Hinton was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004 and 2006. Most recently, Ms. Hinton served as Critic for Veterans Affairs. Prior to this she was Critic for Public Health, for Status of Women and for Multiculturalism.

STAGG, John Ewart (Jack) 1947-2006, Former Deputy Minister, Veterans Affairs Canada

The Department of Veterans Affairs mourns the passing of Deputy Minister Jack Stagg. Mr. Stagg died at home August 9, 2006. Named as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada in April 2003, he was an enthusiastic champion of Veterans' issues. Most recently he was a major force behind the implementation of the New Veterans Charter legislation and promoting the Year of the Veteran in 2005

Verna E. Bruce, Associate Deputy Minister, Veterans Affairs Canada

Born in Charlottetown then educated at Mount Allison and Carleton Universities, Verna began her public service career as an Administrative Trainee with the Government of Prince Edward Island in May 1974. In the following years, she worked as a Budget Analyst with Treasury Board, a Policy Analyst and Senior Planner with Social Services, with the Cabinet Committee on Policy Development on Employment Issues, and with the Hospital and Health Services Commission.
