Veterans Affairs Canada will be conducting a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday July 1, 1999 at the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial in France. Wreaths will be laid by Canada's Naval Attaché to the Canadian Embassy in Paris, by Mr. Lloyd Mathews, the Minister of Provincial and Municipal Affairs for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and by the Sous-Prefect for the Somme. Any Canadians who may be travelling in the area at that time are welcome to attend.
