Pharmacare is a drug benefit program for any Manitoban, regardless of age, whose income is seriously affected by high prescription drug costs.  The Pharmacare site includes answers to frequently asked questions, downloadable forms, and a link to the new Pharmacare Deductible Estimator.

The Manitoba Drug Benefits and Interchangeability Formulary lists therapeutically effective drugs of proven high quality that have been approved as eligible benefits under the Pharmacare drug benefit program.  It also includes a list of interchangeable drugs.

Before a new drug is considered for Pharmacare coverage, the manufacturer must send a drug submission to the Manitoba Drug Standards and Therapeutics Committee.  This information includes reviews of scientific literature, comparable drug therapies, anticipated drug costs, and therapeutic benefits.

Sometimes, a patient needs medical treatment or care that cannot be provided in Manitoba.  Manitoba Health may cover some of the costs of this care, based on a specific approval process.

Registration certificates issued by the Insured Benefits Branch confirm eligibility for Manitoba Health coverage, provided you continue to live in Manitoba.  Carry your certificate with you at all times and present it whenever you or your dependants require health services.

This program is designed for people at the end stages of their illness, when the focus of care is on comfort. By covering the cost of these eligible drugs for use in the home, a major financial burden is removed for the patient and their family.

If you wish to donate organ(s) or tissue after death, complete an Organ and Tissue Donor Card and keep it with your Manitoba Health Registration Certificate (health card) so it is visible for law enforcement and hospital officials.
