Progress of Work

The work planned for six of the seven sites located on notable Canadian battlefields (Bourlon Wood, Courcelette, Dury and Le Quesnel in France, and Passchendaele and St. Julien in Belgium) is now complete. It involved the cleaning of the monuments, stabilizing uneven walkways and terraces, repairing or replacing some pavers and making repairs to the retaining walls and benches, and improving the drainage systems.

Le Quesnel

Work at the remaining site, Hill 62 (Sanctuary Wood) in Belgium began in July 2006 and will be completed in the fall. It will include the installation of a new drainage system to address stone deterioration associated with water infiltration. The site will remain open to visitors with some restricted access.

Courcelettte

The work planned for the four sites marking places of historical significance to the then Dominion of Newfoundland (Gueudecourt, Monchy-le-Preux and Masnières in France and Courtrai in Belgium) is now complete.
