Restoration work at Vimy

image - August 2006 image - The stone on the stairs is hand-finished to achieve the desired texture and effect. image - Work begins to fill in the joints between the stone blocks on the monument's northern face. image - September 2006 image - Space and sandbags are introduced between the stones and the concrete base to improve the drainage features of these steps at the front of the monument. image - This photo, taken in 2000, shows the effects of water damage on the tomb at the front of the monument. image - New blocks are used to restore the base of the tomb. image - The gleaming white character and intricate detail of the tomb have been restored. image - Work to restore the pylons includes small repairs to the original stone blocks and the replacement of the mortar between the joints. image - Work begins to restore the base of the statue group representing the "Sympathy of Canadians for the Helpless." image - The process of inserting a new mortar that is both flexible and durable continues. image - The stairs leading up to the pylons have been rebuilt. image - The Male and Female Mourners have been cleaned to restore their original brilliance. image - The entrance to the Canadian National Vimy Memorial is being redesigned to enhance the visitor's experience of the site.
