The task of leadership is not to put greatness into humanity, but to elicit it, for the greatness is already there.

Message from The Honourable Ron J. Duhamel

It gives me great pleasure to announce that one of our own has been recognized for her commitment and exemplarily work ethic. Rachel Corneille Gravel, Executive Director of Ste. Anne's Hospital, was honoured yesterday at the 2001 Outstanding Achievement Awards ceremony in Ottawa. The presentation was made by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada and the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Jean Crétien, at a ceremony at Rideau Hall.

Considered to be the highest honour in the Public Service of Canada, the Outstanding Achievement Award was established in 1996 to recognize the exemplary service and accomplishments of senior public service employees over the course of their careers in the federal government.

As the Executive Director of Ste. Anne's Hospital, Rachel has committed herself to maintaining the quality of life, dignity and respect that our veterans deserve while constantly improving the Hospital's efficiency to ensure its ability to help those in need. Through it all, Rachel has remained a strong but thoughtful leader.

On behalf of all employees at Veterans Affairs, I congratulate Rachel on her remarkable work and the honour of receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award - the excellence that you demonstrate is an inspiration to us all.

The Hon. Ron J. Duhamel
Minister of Veterans Affairs
