Canadian Airmen Buried with Honours

Introduction

On May 25, 1944, seven airmen on board the Halifax Bomber LV905 were killed when their aircraft was shot down by a German fighter plane. The remains of only two of the seven crew members were recovered after the crash. The crew of LV905 included two Canadians, Flying Officer Sidney Glen Peterson and Flight Sergeant Joseph Thomas Lloyd LeBlanc.

After more than 60 years, further remains have been recovered and the wreckage of the aircraft salvaged. The salvage effort was initiated by the Salvage Halifax 1944 Foundation, with the support of family members.

On September 27, 2006, family members of the crew will gather in the Netherlands for a full military burial.
