Hours, Locations and Parking
- Please note that the Legislative Library has two locations
each with their own set of hours and
services. Reference service to the public may be limited
when the Assembly is in session. Check the Assembly web site for session dates.
Resources
Photocopies And Microprints
- Letter, legal or ledger size photocopies are 15¢ each
on a coin-operated self-serve copier at both locations.
- A self-serve microprinter is available for paper copies of
microfilm pages in the Main Reading
Room only. Microprints (in letter, legal or ledger
size) are 50¢ each on this self-serve microfilm printer.
- To have photocopies mailed by post to you, there is a minimum
charge of $5.00 for the first 20 pages and 20¢
for each subsequent photocopied page.
- To have microprints mailed by post to you, there is a $5.00
minimum for up to 5 prints and 50¢ for each subsequent
print mailed by post.
- To receive a facsimile of photocopies or microprints, there
is a $5.00 minimum for the first 10 pages and 50¢ per additional
page.
- You will receive an invoice by mail for photocopies or microprints
sent to you by post or facsimile.
- The Library reserves the right to limit the number of copies
or to return unreasonable requests.
Prior to visiting the Library
- It is best to contact the Library
prior to your visit to ensure the information you want is available
especially if you are making a special trip to Winnipeg.

us to find out which location would be best for your research.
- You may also want to search our online
catalogue prior to visiting the Library to prepare for your
research.
Borrowing from the Manitoba Legislative Library
- The public may use general collection and reference items, government documents,
legislation, select online sources, newspapers, microfilms and
special collections housed while
at either location. The public cannot borrow directly from the
library; however your own public, university or corporate library
can borrow material from us on your behalf via inter-library
loan.
Genealogists And Historians
- The Legislative Library preserves and makes accessible heritage
collections about Manitoba which are useful in exploring
family and community history. Guides
And Links For Genealogical Research will help you plan for
optimal research time while at the Library.
- If you are unable to visit the library in person, please read
the section below on the various options
open to you.
Classroom Visits
- Projects involving groups of students should be arranged in
advance with the Head
of Reference Services to confirm that resources and equipment
available on site will meet the learning needs of the group.
- Resources especially useful
to students are federal and provincial government publications
including laws and statistics, United
Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) publications, as well as the Manitoba
newspaper collection.
If You Are Unable to Visit the Library
- If you cannot come to the Library in person, several options
are available. You may email, write,
telephone or fax your request to us.
- Your request should be specific with as much background information
as you have available. Depending on the type of information
required, background information should include dates, full
names and geographic locations or bibliographic citations which
are as complete as possible.
- If you decide to send us an email request, make sure your
complete name and address are included, especially if you wish
to have photocopies or microprints sent
to you by post.
- The Library staff will help you find known items. If material
is found in our collection, photocopies or microprints can be
made for a nominal fee
- You may also consult our catalogue
and request items via your own library through interlibrary loan
services.
