55 PLUS
The 55 PLUS Program, a Manitoba Income Supplement, provides quarterly income
supplements to lower-income Manitobans who are 55 years
of age and over, and whose incomes are within certain
levels. Eligibility is based on income from the previous
year. Applications can be submitted anytime during
the year.
If eligible, applicants may
receive:
- a quarterly
maximum of $111.60 for single persons with incomes
of $8,930.40 (about $744 gross income per month)
or less. Partial benefits are calculated for those
with incomes between $8,930.41 and $9,722.40; or
- a quarterly
maximum of $119.90 to each eligible married person
with a family
income of $14,479.20 (about $1,206.00 gross income per
month) or less. Partial benefits are calculated for
those with incomes between $14,479.21 and $16,207.20.
If your household income is slightly above
the maximum, you are encouraged to apply, as there are
some allowable deductions from gross income.
Applicants may be eligible if
they are 55 years of age or older, live in Manitoba,
have a valid Manitoba Health registration number and
an income within the allowable ranges.
A new application is required
each year.
Note: If you receive benefits from the federal Old Age Security program, you do not
need to apply. Your eligibility is automatically determined
by the level of benefits you receive from the Guaranteed
Income Supplement, the Allowance, or Allowance for the
survivor.
Persons who receive income assistance (from the Province, municipalities or the federal government) are
not eligible for 55 PLUS benefits. However, those who
receive only the health care benefits portion of income
assistance may be eligible.
