Assessing Violence Against Women: A Statistical Profile (PDF)

Economic Gender Equality Indicators  (PDF)
(Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers, March 2001)
The gender equality indexes use ratios of women to men to show the differences between the sexes for a given measure of equality. A ratio of 1.0 means women and men are equal. An index above or below 1.0 indicates inequality or imbalance for that measure: below 1.0, women have less than men; above 1.0, they have more. A gap that is closing over time, converging on 1.0, may result from changes in women's situation, or in men's situation, or both.  The indcators address key aspects of economic well-being for women including income, work and education.

This publication is an update of a publication released in 1997. The intital report was the result of a two-year project commissioned by the F/P/T   Ministers responsible for the Status of Women.  The 2001 update was published in the Statistics Canada publication Social Trends
