Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Manitoba Prenatal Benefit?
Eating healthy foods during pregnancy is very important for
you and your growing baby. To help you eat well while
you are pregnant the Manitoba government will send you a monthly
cheque during your pregnancy if you:
- live in Manitoba, and
- have a low to moderate income (net family income less
than about $32,000 a year).
How much will the Prenatal Benefit be?
The amount of your cheque depends on how much money you (and
your spouse, if you are married or living common law) made
last year. Many people will receive about $80 a month. Others
will receive lower amounts. (Sample
benefits ...)
When can I start getting the benefit?
Apply as soon as you can. The benefit can start in the month
of your 14th week of pregnancy, if an application is received
by or before that time. Applications received later
are eligible from that date, if complete.
How long will this benefit last?
The benefit is paid while you are pregnant and ends in the
month your baby is due. After your baby is born, federal child
benefits begin.
What are Healthy Baby community support programs?
Where are these programs?
These are friendly and informal services. They can answer
your questions about pregnancy and your new baby. They can
support you so you don't feel alone. (List of Community Support Programs ...) To
find out how you can connect with programs in your area, call
945-1301 (in Winnipeg) or toll-free 1-888-848-0140.
