Manitoba Water Stewardship is currently developing a Water Efficiency Strategy. The purpose of this strategy is to identify:
- Issues (opportunities and barriers),
- Goals and Consumption Targets (the right amount of water to use),
- Required programs (ways to achieve water efficiency),
- Incentives (ways to help Manitobans achieve water efficiency), and
- Regulations (requirements for Manitobans to achieve water efficiency).
We are expecting the Water Efficiency Strategy to deliver the following results:
- Manitobans will have a Water Efficiency Strategy that will provide sound guidance on how to achieve more efficient use of water
- Manitobans will become more knowledgeable about the importance of using water more efficiently and the role they can play, both in their work and personal lives.
- Manitoba will contribute, as a global leader, to an international dialogue on water efficiency
Manitoba Water Stewardship, Manitoba Conservation and Efficiency Manitoba will be working together to coordinate programs that seek to improve water efficiency in Manitoba. Currently, a public discussion piece, Wise Use of Water, is being developed that is intended to engage Manitobans in an open dialogue about what we are currently doing, what we should be doing and what we can do now to improve water efficiency.
Manitobans from all walks of life and from every sector of society benefit from our abundance of fresh water. For this reason, all Manitobans are part of the solution and can contribute to improving water efficiency.
