Flood update for The Pas Area
Manitoba - October 6, 2005
- Flooding of lands in the Pasquia Valley continues to subside with water remaining in low spots only. The Knapp Dam remains closed since levels on the Pasquia side are now substantially lower than on the Saskatchewan River. Pumping is now minimal as water levels in drains has subsided to near normal. This was the largest summer flood on record in the Pasquia and resulted from a 125-150 mm downpour on Sept. 10, 2005.
- The level of the Saskatchewan River at The Pas declined 0.3 feet from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6 and will continue to decline unless additional heavy rain develops over the watershed. The crest for this event was about three feet lower than that of the July, 2005 flood. While flooding did not occur, the strong current and high levels did pose a problem for fishers and recreation.
- Levels on the Carrot River declined about 0.3 feet from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, 2005 and should continue to decline steadily. Details are shown in the table below. While flooding was avoided for this event, levels continue to be at record highs for this time of year.
