A flood sheet for the
Assiniboine River for June 12, 2006is attached. It also shows conditions and forecasts for the Red River
in Winnipeg and for Red Deer Lake.
The water level of Shellmouth
Reservoir rose 0.13 feet over the weekend and stood at 1410.84 feet this
morning. The Assiniboine River crested at Kamsack late on June 10 and as a
result, reservoir water levels should begin to fall again later today. With
normal weather conditions it will take until mid July for the water to decline
to the spillway elevation of 1408.5 feet.
The high water levels of
Shellmouth Reservoir continue to cause flooding of recreational properties
along the shoreline. Some landowners in the Kamsack area of Saskatchewan have
reported flooding, due to a combination of high reservoir levels and high flows
on the Assiniboine River.
The outflow should decline
to 1300 cfs by June 25 based on favourable weather. At 1300 cfs flooded lands
just downstream of the Reservoir can drain effectively through subsoil
seepage.
The Assiniboine River
continues to be above flood stage in the Shellmouth area. However the river is
within its channel at all points further downstream and valley lands previously
flooded continue to dry.
The level of Red Deer Lake
was at 864.93 feet this morning. The normal summer level of the Lake is 860.0
feet. The lake is expected to decline at least one foot by the end of June
based on normal weather conditions.
The Community of Red Deer
Lake is continuing the clean-up under the supervision of Manitoba’s Department
of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs. High water levels and a high water table
continue to interfering with the work, as some homes are still surrounded by
water or are water-logged in the crawl space. However significant progress is
expected in the next few weeks if the weather is favourable.
The weather forecast from
Environment Canada calls for scattered showers in western Manitoba later
today. Showers are expected Thursday night to Friday.
