FLOOD UPDATE FOR MANITOBA

May 10, 2006.

Flood sheets for the Assiniboine River and Carrot River/Red Deer Lake are attached.

  • The Assiniboine River crest passed through Miniota very early this morning.

  • A rise in the Qu’Appelle River and some smaller tributaries due to Monday’s rain is adding somewhat to flows in the upper Assiniboine. However Shellmouth Reservoir inflow and levels should continue to decline.

  • The flow at Southport (Portage la Prairie) has been increased to near 6000 cfs, with an associated decrease of 1000 cfs in Portage Diversion flows.

  • Levels of the Carrot River and Red Deer Lake continue to decline very slowly.

  • Information for the Red River at Winnipeg has been added at the bottom of the Assiniboine River sheet. Up to 50 mm of rain has fallen in the U.S. portion of the Red River in the past two days. This will not stop the declines of the River in Manitoba from now through the weekend but could result in levels of the Red River in Manitoba holding steady next week.
