FLOOD UPDATE FOR MANITOBA

May 11, 2006.

Flood sheets for the Assiniboine River and Carrot River/Red Deer Lake are attached.

  • Some showers are expected over the weekend but rainfall amounts should be light and will not affect river levels.

  • Shellmouth Reservoir is still three feet above the spillway elevation but is falling steadily.

  • The crest on the Assiniboine River is expected at Virden late tomorrow.

  • Additional rises from Portage la Prairie to Headingley should be minimal.

  • With favourable weather, flooding on the Assiniboine River should end by May 23.

  • Levels of the Carrot River continue to decline slowly. Updated levels for mile 22 to mile 9 will be available tomorrow.

  • The level of Red Deer Lake declined about two inches since yesterday and should continue to fall at about the same rate for the next ten days, except for fluctuations due to changes in wind. It will take about two more weeks until the clean-up can commence.
