Levels from Miniota to
Virden declined more than one foot in the 48 hour period ending on this Sunday
morning. The river is now within its banks at all points from St. Lazare to
Winnipeg. Overbank flows should end in the Millwood area in a few days but
will continue in the Shellmouth area until the end of this week.
Portions of the Assiniboine
Valley which have been flooded until recently will require one to two weeks of
dry weather to drain and dry after the river falls below bankfull. Rainfall
during the next few weeks will be very important in determining whether a crop
can still be seeded before the insurance deadlines pass.
The level of the Red River
in downtown Winnipeg declined half a foot during the past two days and is
expected to decline to 8.5 feet by May 29 based on favourable weather.
Showers are expected in
western Manitoba Tuesday to Wednesday morning with rainfall amounts of 5-15
mm. This may reduce the rate of decline of the Assiniboine River in the
Shellmouth area slightly.
