The Hydrologic forecasting
Centre of Manitoba Water Stewardship has ended the flood warning for the Fisher
River watershed and replaced it with a high water advisory.
Based on additional
information on water levels and flows in the Fisher River received from regional
staff and from Water Survey of Canada near noon today, it appears that crests of
the Fisher River in the Peguis Reserve and the Fisher River Reserve will be
about one foot lower than those of the April 2004 event. While crests for this
event will be higher than those of April 2005 and April 2006, flooding of homes
due to high river levels is no longer expected along Fisher River.
Levels in the Fisher River
will remain unusually high for the next few days and low-lying properties may
still be affected. Overland flooding in the Fisher River watershed and some
adjoining areas of the Interlake is still underway but is gradually subsiding.
Groundwater levels are very high, so seepage problems may continue for some
time. The high water advisory will be updated or cancelled tomorrow.
