Life sciences
refers to the practice of using cellular and molecular processes to create new products,
enhance industrial efficiency and productivity, safeguard the environment and enhance our
quality of life through improved pharmaceuticals, diagnostic medicine and food production.
Biotechnology
As a tool of life sciences, biotechnology is the collection of technologies that
capitalize on the attributes of cells and biological molecules, such as DNA and proteins.
Biotechnology involves the integrated use of biological sciences, information technology
and engineering to investigate and process components of biological systems, ultimately
resulting in value-added goods and services.
