The
Directorate works to:
- Influence government decision-making to ensure that the unique needs and concerns of
women are integrated into public policy, legislation, and programs.
- Conducts research, policy and gender-analysis and raises awareness of emerging issues.
- Works with other government departments and the community to promote measures that will
help women achieve equality.
- Generates government initiatives that reflect specific concerns and priorities of
Manitoba women that require the Directorate’s intervention.
The Directorate’s long range plans include four main goals (areas of
focus):
Enhance the capacity for Manitoba women to attain economic self-sufficiency and/or
economic security.
Promote efforts to provide a violence-free environment for women and children.
Raise awareness of women’s health issues and advocate for recognition of
women’s needs in public health policy.
Promote the routine use of gender-inclusive analysis in government decision-making,
policies and programs.
In working toward achieving these goals, the Directorate has the
following three core functions that guide it’s efforts:
- Representing women’s interests
- Enhancing services and opportunities for women
- Raising awareness
