I am pleased to welcome you to the Manitoba Water Stewardship website. Preserving this precious natural resource is a high priority for our government and we are proud to be the first province in the country to have a stand-alone department devoted to water stewardship.

Our goal is to ensure Manitobans maintains an abundance of high quality water to meet present and future needs. This website is designed to provide easy access to information about our comprehensive approach to water, fisheries and aquatic ecosystem management. Information on water-related legislation, water resource protection and efficiency and numerous programs and services in water stewardship are all available on this site. You can also learn about environmental licensing for sewage treatment, watershed management plans and our ongoing strategy to protect Lake Winnipeg and all Manitoba's lake and rivers from waste and pollution.

We recognize the critical role water plays in the environmental, economic and social well-being of Manitobans - today and tomorrow - and have dedicated financial and human resources to ensuring long term, abundant, clean water supplies.
