60th Anniversary of the Murmansk Run

  Schedule of Events

A small delegation of Canadians in a pilgrimage led by Veterans Affairs Canada will be travelling to Murmansk, Russia from May 4 - 12, 2005 to mark the Murmansk Run, part of 60th Anniversary of the End of the Second World War activities taking place in many countries. During this pilgrimage, Veterans will return to Murmansk, one of the most strategically important supply ports during the Second World War, and the destination of many supply runs.

The Murmansk Run is widely known as one of the most dangerous supply routes of the war, and the brave veterans who sailed their ships on the Murmansk Run are truly heroes. Men of the Canadian Merchant Mariners and Royal Canadian Navy were instrumental in ensuring that both supplies and people were safely transported into Murmansk throughout the Second World War.
