April 25, 2001 -- The drive along the South Shore of Nova Scotia is one of rolling hills, hard and soft wood forests and frequent glimpses of the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. On one or two occasions, the legendary Oak Island with its mysterious - and apparently unrecoverable - buried treasure is also visible in the distance....[more]



Nearly 1,750,000 men and women served for Canada during the First World War, the Second World War and the Korean War. Approximately 116,000 died as a result of their service. Part of the mandate of Veterans Affairs Canada is to keep the memory of their achievements and sacrifices alive for all Canadians....[more]



Nova Scotia and Norway forged lasting ties, during the Second World War — ties that began on April 9, 1940, when Norway was invaded by German troops. At that time, a total of 1,100 Norwegian ships were either out on the high seas or in ports far away from home. They were advised to sail to the nearest Allied port. In that group, there were 7 Norwegian factory ships and 16 whalers that received cryptic instructions to seek refuge ‘somewhere on the East Coast of Canada'. The coordinates of longitude and latitude they were given brought them to the Halifax harbour....[more]



The Camp Norway Pilgrimage covers various sites in Nova Scotia connected with the Second World War, including Lunenburg, Camp Norway and the Fisheries Museum. Special ceremonies will include the Norwegian Ambassador to Canada and the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. There will be students of all ages participating it what is aimed at a variety of learning experiences.
