Bibliographies

Every time you borrow ideas, words, or information from others, it is extremely important to document the source. This is done to explain that the material was borrowed and where it was borrowed from. When using the Veteran's Affairs Canada Web site for research you must properly document it.

This reference can be done in several different formats or styles. Ask your teacher which technique he or she prefers or choose the most relevant style for your source but be consistent with all of the documents you reference. Two of the most common formats for documenting a source are the MLA (Modern Language Association) and APA (American Psychological Association) formats.

For a World Wide Web site:

MLA format:

AUTHOR. (Last Name, First Name and Initials) "WWW Sites (World Wide Web)." NAME OF ARTICLE. DATE OF PUBLICATION. (Month, Year) WWW ADDRESS (DATE OF RESEARCH(Day, Month, Year))

Example in MLA format:

Gardham, Bob R. "WWW Sites (World Wide Web)." Veteran's Affairs Canada: The Battle of Ypres. April, 1997. http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/battles/ypres.html (15 Oct. 1998)
