Calgary, Alberta – "Letter of Thanks"
Gordie Bannerman, a Veteran of the Italian Campaign during the Second World War, attended his family reunion in Calgary with his wife Edith on September 13, 2004. When Mr. Bannerman returned to his car he found a letter placed on his car window.
Letter of Thanks:
Pardon the intrusion.
I was walking by and noticed your veteran's licence plate.
I wanted to stop by and say "thank-you".
It was your sacrifices that allowed me to walk freely down this street.
It was your sacrifices that helped shaped this Canada that I am so very
proud of. I am a student at Mount Royal and I am grateful that because
what you fought for made it possible for me to go back to school and learn.
I hope one day my actions will make future generations proud.
Thank you and I hope one day I can do my country as proud as you and
your friends and family.
Happy to be alive
Happy to be Canadian
Gratefully,
C
"I was deeply touched by it. To think that someone would take the time to stand outside in 4 degree morning to write such a very nice letter. That is why I'm sharing it with you. There is still a majority of young people that are the greatest. Bless them." – Gordie Bannerman
