Kirkland Lake, Ontario - "Canadian Forces Wall"

In October 2002, Nyla Koomans of Veterans Affairs Canada in Kirkland Lake, Ontario put forward a proposal for the creation of the Canadian Forces Wall and began the work in February 2003. This special wall is located on the 4th floor in the Ontario Regional Office National Contact Centre in Kirkland Lake.

Nyla and former Minister of Veterans Affairs, the Honourable John McCallum, unveiled the Wall of Remembrance in Kirkland Lake on April 16th, 2004.

Nyla has volunteered much of her time and effort towards making sure still serving members of the Canadian Forces (CF) are not only appreciated, but honoured through the creation of a wall of remembrance. Ever since the initial approval, the CF wall has taken on a life of its own. Starting with only a few contributions, including people from CF support units, different recruitment centres and even members of the CF (both current and retired) the wall just grew from there.

Nyla has received many more generous donations including maps, pictures, and even personal items like caps and badges. The wall also contains a listing of dates and countries where our Forces have been deployed since the end of the Korean War, with particular emphasis being placed on areas of current operations.

If you would like to donate an item for the Canadian Forces Wall, please contact Nyla at Nyla.Koomans@vac-acc.gc.ca.
