Canada [http://canada.gc.ca/acanada/acPubHome.jsp?font=0⟨=eng] is a huge country of 9,984,670 square kilometres with a population of 30,007,094 in 2001. It extends from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and includes ten provinces and three territories. Each province has distinctive features insofar as genealogical research is concerned because of historical events and the ethnic groups that populated it.

Information about specific types of records can be found in the section on Sources by Topic. To find online resources, please see the Directory of Canadian Genealogical Resources - AVITUS in the Databases section.

Statistics Canada provides an online version of the publication Historical Statistics of Canada [www.statcan.ca/english/freepub/11-516-XIE/sectiona/toc.htm], which includes statistics on Canadian population and immigration.
