Action on Wait Times
The Ontario government is creating a health care system that helps people stay healthy, delivers good care to them when they get sick, and will be there for their children and grandchildren. A dependable system, now and into the future.
Wait times are one of the ways we all measure the quality of the health care we are receiving. A critical part of the government's overall plan for health care is reducing wait times and improving access to five major health services: cancer surgery, cardiac procedures, cataract surgery, hip and knee replacements, as well as MRI and CT exams. As part of its Wait Times Strategy, the Government of Ontario is :
- Funding more procedures. Since 2004, the government has funded about 657,000 additional medical procedures.
- For the first time in Ontario, collecting wait times information and making it available on a website so Ontarians can make better decisions about their health care and track the government's progress on reducing wait times.
