Description:
Since 1989, Canada has adopted Regulations to control the import, manufacture, use, sale, and export of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and amend the list of toxic substances in Schedule 1 of CEPA. The following ODS have been eliminated from consumption (production, import, export) in Canada: CFC’s, Halons, Carbon Tetrachloride, Methyl Chloroform, and HBFC’s. Consumption (production, import, export) of HCFC’s will be phased out by the year 2030 and use of Methyl Bromide was reduced by 25 percent by 1998. They also require that permits be obtained to import or export used, recovered, recycled and reclaimed ODS.
