Donor Restrictions

Many donors who have donated their personal papers to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) have placed restrictions on the consultation and reproduction of their records. These restrictions can take various forms. Here are some examples:

  • the client must obtain the donor's written permission before consulting the records;
  • the client must fill out a form requesting access to the records;
  • the client must agree to various conditions (e. g. not revealing the names of persons mentioned in the records);
  • the records cannot be accessed before a specified date.

For information about the possibility of gaining access to these records, ask us a question.
