for Schools, Families and Communities
Manitoba Education, Citizenship, and Youth is committed to supporting and developing resources for schools, families and communities to enhance school safety. From the implementation of the Safe Schools Charter legislation to parent brochures, teacher and student resources, and workshop opportunities, the province works together with schools, families and communities to address issues related to safety and violence prevention. Manitoba Education Citizenship and Youth encourages a whole school approach to safety and belonging that includes the community. Together we can make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth in their schools and for the future.

Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth develops and supports school and community initiatives that encourage safety, caring, and security of all learners; professional development workshops and materials for educators; and website information on personal safety, violence and bullying prevention.

Laws and Regulations
In 2004, Manitoba made it law that schools must ensure safe and caring environments for all students. The Safe School Charter requires all schools to have appropriate and current safety policies that include a code of conduct and an emergency response plan. The Appropriate Educational Programming laws include regulations that affect the discipline, safety and caring of students .

Safe Schools Manitoba
Safe Schools Manitoba is a partnership initiative of organizations committed to the promotion of safe schools and communities. The organization receives ongoing financial support from the Province of Manitoba, specifically, the Department of Education, Citizenship and Youth and the Department of Justice. Housed in the offices of the Manitoba Association of School Trustees (MAST), Safe Schools Manitoba provides assistance, training and resources to schools and community groups throughout the province.
