Are You a D-Day Veteran?

June 6, 2004 will mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of German-occupied France that led to the end of the Second World War. Veterans Affairs Canada has recently established a special advisory committee to help the Minister of Veterans Affairs identify opportunities to celebrate this historic anniversary across Canada and overseas. As part of their work, the committee, chaired by Retired Major General Richard Rohmer, is trying to identify as many surviving D-Day and Battle of Normandy veterans as possible.

If you are a D-Day or Battle of Normandy veteran and you'd like to be included on this list, please call us toll-free at 1-866-552-2122, e-mail information@vac-acc.gc.ca or fax us at (902) 566-8501. Include your name and Unit information, as well as your current mailing address, telephone number or fax number.

On June 6, 2003, the Juno Beach Centre officially opened. The federal government has contributed more than $3 million to help establish and support the Centre. An additional $200,000 a year has been allocated by the federal government to support the interpretive program and the Centre's ongoing operations. The project is spearheaded by the Juno Beach Association, a group of Second World War veterans who participated in the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.
