Plymouth School - "War Memorabilia Display Cabinet"

The War Memorabilia Display Cabinet was undertaken by Korea Veteran Bob Garron and teacher Yolande Donaldson of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. In 2004, Veterans Bob Garron and Charles Campbell of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 Wedgeport approached Principal Chris Rose and teacher Yolande Donaldson of Plymouth School in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia regarding a War Memorabilia Display Cabinet in the school. A small cabinet was donated by Branch 155 and within a year was full of memorabilia.

With the help of the Plymouth School students, staff, the School Advisory Council, the Parent Teachers Association, the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union and the Municipality of Argyle, enough money was raised to construct a new glass door cabinet measuring approximately 400cm wide and 250cm high. The War Memorabilia Display Cabinet was unveiled in June 2005 as the school celebrated the Year of the Veteran. The honoured guests, the Veterans, were entertained by the choir singing war songs, a slide show of some of the artifacts and the formal unveiling. The Veterans gathered for refreshments after the unveiling.

The cabinet contains artifacts dating back to 1845, the New Zealand Medal. Other artifacts include the China Mutiny Medal, Boer War Medals, First and Second World War Medals, a Dead Man's Penny, uniforms, gas masks and helmets. These artifacts have been donated by the local Veterans and Legion Branches.
