HEALTH MATTERS

It's Flu Season

Every winter, thousands of Canadians suffer from the influenza virus, or flu, as it's commonly known. Your risk of catching the flu is greater if you are a senior, suffer from a chronic medical condition or reside in a residential care facility. To minimize your chances of getting the flu, or suffering serious medical problems as a result of the flu, ask your doctor about the advantages of getting an annual influenza vaccination. Contrary to what you may have been told, a flu shot will NOT cause you to get the flu; however, a small number of people may notice some tenderness at the site of the injection or experience a mild fever for a day or two.

Travel Advisory

If you need to take medical devices or medication with you when travelling by air, you may want to ask your doctor for a letter that describes the items you are carrying and your onboard medical needs. This may reduce any inconvenience to you that may result from increased security at all airports.
