VAC WORKING HARD TO MAINTAIN DISABILTY PENSION TURNAROUND TIMES

Although VAC is receiving more pension disability claims than ever before, we've been very successful in maintaining our established turnaround times for first applications. To build on this success, we recently implemented a new computer system that, over the long term, will help us to more effectively deliver our programs and services. In the short term, however, it is taking a bit longer to process some requests that have been received.

We anticipated this might occur because there always is a learning curve when a new system is introduced. We planned for this, however, and took immediate steps to address the situation by adding additional resources. We are closely monitoring the situation and have informed veterans' organizations of potential temporary delays in client service.

During the transition to the new system, urgent cases will continue to receive priority. Staff also are giving immediate attention to applications that are more than six months old. We'll keep you posted on our progress in future issues of Salute!
