Safely Home
People with Alzheimer Disease sometimes lose the ability to recognize familiar places, to communicate or to remember their own name or address. They may leave home, become confused and get lost. Veterans Affairs Canada is partnering with the Alzheimer Society of Canada to provide veterans with a service that can help.
The Safely Home Alzheimer Wandering Registry is a nationwide program that helps to find a person with Alzheimer Disease who is lost and safely return them home.
For a one-time fee of $25, the registrant will receive an identification bracelet, identification cards and information about how to prevent wandering and what to do if it occurs. Veterans Affairs Canada covers this one-time registration fee for any veterancurrently receiving benefits from our Department. Safely Home is available to those living at home or in a long-term care facility.
To register for the program, call your local Alzheimer Society or the Society's toll-free telephone number at 1-800-616-8816. You can also visit their Web site at www.alzheimer.ca and download a registration form.
