Who is Eligible?

Two groups of clients are eligible for health care benefits through VAC.

Group "A" clients: You must have established eligibility for a pension from Veterans Affairs Canada. You may only use your card to obtain approved benefits directly related to your pensioned condition. Your provider must obtain authorization from VAC before benefits can be provided.

Group "B" clients: You must have established eligibility for treatment of non-pensioned conditions. You are eligible for approved benefits provided you have a clearly demonstrated health need and these benefits are not covered by your provincial health plan. If you are a "B" client, your provider must bill the appropriate provincial health program for the portion of the benefit that is covered by your province.

To be eligible for benefits under POC 12, you must have an "A" or a "B" under POC 12 on your VAC Health Care Identification Card. Your access to benefits will depend on your eligibility and on your health care needs.
