Postal Program -- Importing firearms and weapons

Before you try to import a firearm or weapon by mail, please check carefully to make sure that it's not restricted or prohibited.

• Under no circumstances can restricted or prohibited firearms or weapons be imported into Canada by mail (see D19-13-2 Importing and Exporting Firearms, Weapons, and Devices - Customs Tariff, Criminal Code, Firearms Act, and Export and Import Permits Act for details).
• Only non-restricted firearms -- such as a sporting rifle or shotgun -- can be imported into Canada by mail (find details on the Canada Firearms Centre Web site).
  • If you've purchased a non-restricted firearm outside of Canada that's being imported for the first time, we must see your Possession and Acquisition License before we'll release your parcel to Canada Post.
  • If your non-restricted firearm was exported from Canada and is being returned, we must see your Possession License before we'll release your parcel to Canada Post.

Once we've released your firearm, Canada Post will deliver your goods and will collect the appropriate duty and tax from you.
