Family Histories

Research at Library and Archives Canada

Library and Archives Canada has a growing number of published histories of Canadian families and families with Canadian connections.

Many of our family histories are available through inter-institutional loan.

Search for the published history of a particular family in AMICUS, using authors, titles or subject terms such as:

  • Johnston family; and
  • Gregory family.

Library and Archives Canada also has a number of Bibliographies.

Use the General Inventory database to find records relating to families, (MG 25 collection).

Keywords: name and "mg25"

Research in Other Institutions

Many genealogical societies collect family histories compiled by their members. Some genealogists also donate copies to the provincial archives.
