Improving VIP
Veterans Affairs Canada is changing the way it administers the Veterans Independence Program (VIP) so that clients who receive home and community care can be better served. As a result of these changes:
- clients will receive better care and it will be more consistent across the country. This is because the individuals and companies who register with us to provide VIP services will need to meet certain standards set by the Department. We've also put in place procedures to monitor the quality of service that clients receive from registered providers. This registration process will not disrupt arrangements you now have in place;
- clients who use a registered VIP provider will no longer need to keep receipts or pay for VIP services out of their own pocket;
- clients who do submit claims for VIP services will be reimbursed faster; and
- clients will find it easier to locate a local provider. Our District Offices will be able to tell clients which providers are registered with us and how to contact them. The changes have no impact on the range of VIP services that clients now receive.

If you are a veteran who qualifies for VIP, you will soon receive a new VAC Health Identification Card and an information pamphlet. You can use the new card to get, and pay for, health care benefits and VIP services that have been approved by our Department. - the new card and how to use it;
- how to locate companies and individuals who are registered providers in your area;
- how to pay companies or individuals who are not registered; and
- how your current provider can register.
